- The rationale is to further sensitize governments and the public at large about the need to face the challenges of climate change through an original, artistic and creative approach.
- This project has three components :
I. An animation show for awareness raising to be performed in the context of relevant UN conferences, such as the World Meteorological Congress, the Rio Earth Summit 2012, UNCTAD XII etc.
II. Creation and dissemination of a series of video clips about enviromental issues.
III. The project offers a capacity-building component to provide training for young talents and creative entrepreneurs in developing countries with a view to nurturing capacities in several creative sectors: theatre, puppetry, new media, writing, music and photography.
- A key output of this project is the training for young talents for the creation of a local version of the Puppet Planet show to be played by local artists in their respective countries. In this way, the show can be replicated and performed at national level in schools and communities at urban and rural areas.
The value chain of the Puppet Planet potentially can generate several creative products around the show for advocacy and educational purposes, including national campaigns. At national level, the value-added derived products of the project can be financed through public-private partnerships involving NGOs, companies engaged in social and environmentally-responsibility projects, sponsors etc.
The project is open for partnerships that will be duly acknowledged (see partners). WMO and UNCTAD prepared a project proposal for potential donors. For further details, please contact us.
The poster of the project was released and distributed by WMO to its 189 Member States, on the occasion of World Meteorological Day on 23 March 2011.
